A Brief History

In 1972, a small group of Christian believers envisioned a church where they could worship close to home in in the peaceful setting of the hills of Aptos. They began to meet regularly for prayer, Bible studies, and worship at some of the participants homes. This small group grew into a small church-sized congregation, and outgrew the homes where they had been meeting. They knew it was time to find a place that to call their "home church" and the seed for Aptos Assembly of God was planted.

In 1974 land was purchased and the group built the church, consisting of a sanctuary, fellowship hall, and an office, and Aptos Assembly was officially opened. Under pastor Stan Stewart, the church continued to grow, and in 1984 the church purchased 15 acres of surrounding land, and added onto the church. The expansion included expanding the sanctuary, adding a preschool and childcare facility, and adding several offices.

Through the difficult financial times of the late 1980's and early 1990's, Aptos Assembly had difficulty making the necessary payments on its land and facility, and narrowly escaped declaring bankruptcy. Many had thought it was time to cut their losses, sell their property, and move on. With Gods grace and a congregation devoted to keeping the doors of their church open, the church managed to get through those tough financial times, and just three years ago, after an aggressive plan to pay off the land note, Aptos Christian Fellowship finds itself debt free, and with almost all of the original 15 acres still in tact to be used for future expansion plans.

While the future of ACF is in Gods hands, we also recognize that God has provided us with a bountiful resources land, a congregation of giving and caring people, one of the most successful childcare and preschools facilities in the county, to name just a few. ACF has a vision for putting those resources to work for our church and community.

Gods purpose is not always immediately evident, but it is always amazing to see the way He can take any situation ordinary or difficult and work it into something much better than anyone could have previously imagined. God has worked in many wonderful ways with Aptos Christian Fellowship, and we look forward to living out His plan for our future, and continuing to enjoy the experience of his presence in our Church.
